Southern Rock Is on Red Dirt Radio
Do you love the old Southern Rock Bands? Bands like The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers, Pure Prairie League, The Band and Molly Hatchet. Do you ever wish you could find new bands with that sound? I'm here to tell you that old school Southern Rock is alive and well on Red Dirt Radio. That's right, hard driving drums, thumping bass, screaming guitar and gritty vocals are back with a vengeance.

I grew up in the 1970's. Discovering new music was such a thrill back then. I remember the first time I heard The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band and how those blends of country and blues all mixed together hit me right down in my very soul. I couldn't wait to tell my friends about the new band I had heard and was even more excited when it was a band they hadn't found about yet. I had "turned them on" to something that was new to them, and they liked it.
In the 1960's and early 1970's FM stations used to be independently owned and operated. The DJ's had the freedom, the mission to find and bring to the public, music that spoke to them and that they thought would speak to their audience. These were known as "underground" radio stations. There was something really cool about being a fan of underground music. Of course those days are gone, or are they?
The thrill is not gone as I recently found, it is on Internet radio.
My personal favorite Red Dirt Radio station is Skydog's Red Dirt Radio. We are talking Southern Rock here. And this is New Southern Rock, although you will find a few of the old school Artists such as Toy Caldwell of The Marshall Tucker Band and Warren Haynes of Government Mule, The Allman Brothers and many other credits to his name.
Also you will find a few of the new Nashville outlaws getting airplay for their songs that won't make it to the mainstream format like Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Jack Ingram and Colt Ford.
Here is a list of my favorite new Southern Rock Bands and Artist in no particular order:
- Blackberry Smoke
- Renegade Rail
- Whiskey Myers
- Bridgette Tatum
- Mike McClure Band
- Bleu Edmondson
- Tyler McCumber Band
- The South of Heaven Band
- Shooter Jennings
- Brandon Jenkins
- Meanstreet Riders
The next time you're on your computer add a little Southern Rock to your day. Discover some new music and then turn your friends and family on to something that will last a lifetime.
Also on Skydog's Red Dirt Radio you'll find The Silas Dogan Band
